Time Spent on Geography

 

As part of the 2010 geography assessment, teachers of fourth- and eighth-graders were asked to indicate the percentage of social studies instruction time in which they primarily focused on geography. The percentages of students whose teachers responded in each category are below.

Grade 4
Grade 8

Approximately two-thirds (67 percent) of fourth-graders had teachers who reported that they spend 40 percent or less of their social studies instructional time on geography.
