Students in city schools score lower in music than students in all other types of school locations

Average responding scale score in NAEP music at grade 8, by school location: 2008

Findings

  • Eighth-grade students attending city schools in 2008 had a lower average responding score in music (142) than students who attended suburban (155), town (156), and rural schools (150).
  • There were no significant differences in the average scores among students in suburban, town, and rural school locations.
