Classroom Context: U.S. History Instruction

As part of the 2010 U.S. history assessment, eighth-grade teachers were asked to indicate the percentage of social studies instruction time in which they primarily focused on U.S. history. The percentage of students whose teachers responded in each category are below.

Grade 4
Grade 8
Grade 12

Aproximately 62 percent of eighth-graders had teachers who reported spending more than 60 percent of their social studies instructional time on U.S. history.
