Lower-performing students make gains at all three grades

Eighth-grade NAEP U.S. history percentile scores

Findings 

  • Scores were higher in 2006 than in 1994 for students at all levels of performance.
  • Compared to 2001, scores were higher for lower- and middle-performing students.
  • Compared to 2001, no significant change was seen for higher-performing students.
