Classroom Context: Teacher Major/Minor

As part of the 2009 reading assessment, teachers of fourth- and eighth-graders were asked about their undergraduate and graduate education in reading/language arts as well as in other subject areas. The tables below, which focus only on reading/language arts and general education degrees earned, provide the percentages and average scores of students whose teachers responded within each category shown.

Grade 4 Average Score
Grade 4 Percentage of Students
Grade 8 Average Score
Grade 8 Percentage of Students

There were no statistically significant differences between the average scores of fourth-graders in large city schools based on teachers' reports of not having an undergraduate degree in education (209) or having a major (212) or minor (209) in education.
