Higher levels of parental education associated with higher achievement

Eighth-grade NAEP civics achievement-level results, by student-reported highest level of parental education

Findings

  • Students who reported at least one parent graduated from college had a higher percentage at or above Basic (by 36 percentage points) than students who reported neither parent finished high school.
